Is Fomo Trading App Legit? The Real App, the Copycats, and the Complaints

You typed the question because something felt off: the name, the .family domain, a friend's referral link, or a Reddit thread calling it a scam. Fair instinct. Here is the split between the real product and the junk that grows around any app that gets popular.

By the Fomo Family Explained editorial team · Independent site, not the Fomo company.

Disclosure & risk: the sign-up button is a referral link; we get a share of fees when someone joins through it, and they get a 10% discount. Memecoins are the riskiest thing you can buy with a phone. Not financial advice.

The Fomo trading app is legit: a real company, real investors, real app-store listings, wallets you control. The scam label gets attached for three reasons that have nothing to do with the company stealing money. First, most memecoins lose value and people who lose money say "scam". Second, sells on tiny tokens sometimes fail, which feels like theft and is actually the token running out of buyers. Third, the name sounds like a warning label, so sceptics assume the worst. Meanwhile actual scams do circle the brand: fake support accounts, lookalike domains, "100% off" promo code pages. This page is about telling those apart.

What makes the real app real

Company
Fomo, launched 2025. Series A of $17M led by Benchmark (November 2025); Series B of $75M led by Index Ventures with Union Square Ventures (June 2026) at a $550M valuation.
Scale
More than 625,000 traders and about $4B in cumulative volume as of June 2026, per Fortune.
Distribution
Published in the Apple App Store and Google Play under the Fomo name; web version at fomo.family since April 2026.
Custody
Embedded non-custodial wallet: key split with Shamir's Secret Sharing, reassembled only in secure hardware when you sign. Private key export and withdrawals to any external wallet, both gated by FaceID.
Fees
About 0.50% per swap with a roughly $0.95 minimum on Solana, published in the app (as of September 2026). 10% off via referral.

Exit scams do not raise Series B rounds from Index Ventures, do not sit in Apple's store for over a year, and do not publish a security architecture where the operator cannot touch the keys. That is the whole legitimacy argument and it is a strong one. It says nothing about whether you will make money.

The scams that borrow the name

Lookalike sites and apps. Domains one letter off from fomo.family, or unrelated apps called "Fomo" in the stores. The real one is published by Fomo and has thousands of ratings; the real web login is only on fomo.family. We wrote a separate safe download guide because this trap is so common.
"Support" that messages you first. Telegram and X accounts with the logo, offering to fix a failed sell if you share a code or "verify" by sending crypto. Fomo support lives inside the app and never asks for a sign-in code or a seed phrase (there is no seed phrase).
Fake promo codes. Pages promising SAVE100, OFF100 or "100% off fees". The official program is a flat 10% discount for new users through any referral link, nothing more. A code promising more is bait for a spam funnel.
Tokens named after the app. Memecoins called FOMO or Fomo Family are not the company and the company has not launched a token as of this writing. Buying one because "the app is doing well" is buying a random ticker.
Trading on Fomo costs 10% less for life if the account is opened through a referral. The discount is applied at sign-up through the link below.

The complaints, read honestly

Store ratings run about 4.8 on iOS across some 6,200 reviews and 4.5 on Android. Trustpilot has a couple of one-star reviews, both about the same experience: a sell that would not execute on a memecoin during a spike, then a support reply that read like a template. We believe both reviewers. What happened is that the token they held had no buyers at that second; no venue can sell into a market with no bids. The loss is real and the support experience is a fair criticism of a well-funded company. Neither is evidence of theft. The pattern to take from it: trade coins with visible volume, keep positions small enough that a stuck exit is not a disaster, and test a withdrawal early.

The one open question: the credit-card probe

On September 1, 2026 The Block reported that memecoin purchases by credit card inside Robinhood Wallet and Fomo were processed as digital goods (merchant code 5815) through infrastructure provider Crossmint, which let buyers earn card rewards and skip the checks card networks apply to crypto. JPMorgan Chase asked Visa to investigate and the New York Attorney General's office opened an inquiry. It is a live story with no outcome yet. Read it for what it is: a dispute about payment rails and rewards points. If it ends badly, the card funding route changes or disappears; your wallet and your tokens are not what is under review. Until it settles, funding with USDC or a bank transfer is the calmer choice.

Verdict

Legit app, dangerous asset class, a noisy ring of impostors around the name. If you decide to try it: install only from the official stores or fomo.family, ignore anyone who contacts you first, fund with money you can lose, and use a referral link for the 10% discount because there is no larger one.

FAQ

Is the Fomo trading app a scam?
The app published by Fomo in the official stores is not: $75M Series B in June 2026, self-custodial wallets, withdrawals at will. Scams exist around the name: fake support, lookalike domains, promo code sites.
Why does Fomo get called a scam online?
Memecoins usually lose value, sells on illiquid tokens sometimes fail, and the name sounds like a warning. None of that is the company taking funds.
Can Fomo freeze or take my funds?
By its published architecture, no. Keys are split, the company cannot reconstruct them, and you can export the key or withdraw any time.
Is there a regulatory problem with Fomo?
A September 2026 inquiry by the New York AG into credit-card memecoin purchases coded as digital goods. About card rules, not user funds; unresolved.
